Don’t Forget Social Media Is Public!

People who set up Facebook groups need to be aware that unless they make the group private, or closed, anyone can view the contents.

Negative

Trawling through various Lanzarote pages recently, I’ve come across a litany of negativity:

  • About banks ripping people off
  • About problems with the water supply
  • About Bad weather (!)
  • About Increased crime on the island
  • And there are dozens of spats between various residents on the island, where they are arguing about one thing or another

The irony is that many of the people posting are also business owners who rely on tourism and people moving to the island for their livelihood – they’re often the same people bemoaning a downturn in their business.

Feel free to use your Facebook page as a general whinging area, but please make it private,  otherwise it may put people off coming to the island for a holiday or to live here.
